Pest & Disease Control

THE MAJOR CAUSES OF PEST PROBLEMS IN LAWNS ARE IMPROPER WATERING AND/OR MOWING.

Watering too often or in the afternoon/evening is an open invitation to every conceivable insect or disease pest.  This also applies to flower/vegetable gardens.

Your BEST defenses against pests are proper watering and mowing.  Almost sounds too good to be true, but it is.

This next defense is a fertile soil fed with natural/organic nutrients. We can provide Natural Pest Control until you have a healthy lawn or landscape.

Aeration/Dethatching

Lawns using natural/organic fertilizers DO NOT need dethatching.

If your lawn has not had chemical lawn care for three or more seasons, core aeration should be performed.  Maske’s recommend two aerations to initially improve the soil.  Once taken care of, it is usually not required again. Exceptions would be sports fields or turf areas with heavy foot traffic.

The population of microorganisms that thrive in a healthy soil will decompose thatch, grass clippings, and shredded leaves very quickly.  Earthworms thrive on organic/natural matter.

In a natural landscape care system, the soil life ends up doing most of the work to help keep plants healthy.

Grub Control

Maske’s offers Milky Spore treatments for controlling Japanese beetle grubs. These are the major cause of Turf Grub damage. These treatments lasts for 10 – 15 years with just one application.
